Advent’s Annual Butterfly Parade
This week Advent held the 14th Annual Monarch Butterfly Parade!
The parade helps to bring awareness of the plight of the endangered butterfly population. Advent's tradition of a butterfly parade began in the Kindergarten classrooms as the children and faculty explored the lifecycle and migration of the monarch butterfly.
Students spent the past few weeks documenting the process and they even had the chance to see multiple monarchs emerge from their chrysalis! This study is filled with intense exploration and camaraderie for our pre-K and K classrooms and we are so excited to share it with you!
To celebrate, students and families marched from Advent to Boston’s Public Garden. Pre-K and Kindergarten students proudly wore their butterfly masks and held signs to help advocate for the monarchs!
Some signs read:
“Save the monarchs!”
“Plant more milkweed!”
“Love the monarch butterfly”
Finally, teachers released the monarchs and students sang, “Adiós mariposa, adiós” to wish the butterflies a safe journey to Mexico.
