Our commitment to education goes beyond the classroom.

Advent provides children with enriching experiences through field trips and leadership opportunities.

Advisory

Faculty advisors lead small groups of Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Graders in Advisory. The groups meet twice a week to hold space for the emergent needs of the students in the group. Advisory seeks to actively engage students using primary experiences (cooperative games, service learning projects, etc.) to reflect on bigger ideas such as collaboration. These experiences aim to help students connect their needs to the community's needs.

Gathering

A weekly time for connection between the Head of School and the Sixth Graders. Discussion themes may include current events or what the students are interested in. This time provides community building and reflection time for Advent's oldest students.

Affinity Groups

Affinity groups at Advent are optional for students based on their self-identity and interest; participation is a family decision to make. The school has an opt-in race-based group for students of color and is launching an LGBTQIA2S+ group in the winter/spring of 2024. Affinity groups meet with faculty affinity group leaders, who plan and facilitate activities. Affinity group leaders have drop-in hours for students to meet in smaller groups or individually.

The Lion’s Prophet is a is fully the voice of the students.

Buddy Program

Advent's Buddy program pairs upper and lower-grade students for cross-grade connections. Buddies spend time together reading, collaborating on projects, and building relationships. Sixth Graders are paired with ECCers, creating a special bond that extends beyond a one-year partnership. Alumni from the Class of 2023 called the Buddy program a "bucket-filler."
