The MFA inspires Fourth Graders
Fourth Graders recently visited the Museum of Fine Arts to see the beautiful Ekua Holmes exhibit. They used this field trip as a launching off point for their studies. Students used her work as inspiration for their own collages they will be creatiing!
Ekua’s work explores themes of childhood, family bonds, memory, and resilience. Students will be exploring these themes through their poetry unit and ultimately writing their own “Where I Am From” poems- complementing the collages they create in Art. Additionally, Fourth Graders are exploring these themes in various forms of poetry through our current book group reads. They are reading Other Words for Home, Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World, The Parker Inheritance, and Before the Ever After.
To further reflect on their trip, students read an article about the ways museums are changing to ensure diverse stories, perspectives, and cultures are represented… Because representation matters! Stay tuned for the finished projects!
