Dream, design, and discover with Advent this summer.

Registration is open!

Explore Design at Advent, our vibrant STEM program for kids aged 5-12!  Our dynamic program nurtures creativity in a supportive community, perfect for curious minds who see endless possibilities in their everyday world.

Design at Advent offers three unique, two-week experiences. Learn about sustainability and create innovative clothing during Wonderstruck Wearables. Explore the history of urban architecture and transportation during Medieval to Modern. Reimagine your environment during City Remix, where designers shake up the everyday! This year, Advent has partnered with Guineafowl Adventure Co. and artist Kyle Browne for City Remix. Participants will spend a week hiking and drawing before using their work to inspire a total city transformation.

Throughout the program, designers engage with industry leaders, getting feedback on their projects and insight into some of Boston's biggest design, engineering, science, and art marvels. Designers share their creations at the Design Expo, a mini-museum for parents and friends held at the end of each session. Programming is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care available until 5:30 p.m. from June through August. Join us for a fun-filled summer in the city!

Wonderstruck Wearables
6/17-6/28*

Designers in this immersive session will draw inspiration from the innovative thinking of the World of Wearable Art. They'll explore the intersection of fashion and LGBTQIA2S+ Pride, examining the industry's connection to diversity. Additionally, participants will tackle environmental issues related to fast fashion and address the impact of consumerism.

The session also includes designing the new summer program t-shirt, encouraging a playful and creative approach to clothing choices and design.

*There is no session on 6/19 as the school is closed during Juneteenth.

City Remix
7/8-7/19

In this session, designers will draw inspiration from Urban Thinkscape's interactive design approach in city settings. The focus will be on Boston, where designers will observe, play, and interact with the urban environment. This hands-on experience aims to foster reflection and inspire the redesign of urban spaces.

Partnership Program for Third-Sixth Graders with Guineafowl Adventures Co.!

Designers enrolled in this one-of-a-kind program will join Dave Fatula, founder of Guineafowl Adventure Company Co., and Kyle Browne, founder of KBCreative, for the first week (7/8 - 7/12). They’ll travel to different habitats across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, exploring the natural world and creating art focused on their surroundings.

Drawing upon their experiences and observations from the first week, the designers will spend the second week diving into the design process and redesigning urban spaces that reflect the community's needs and the surrounding natural environment.

Medieval to Modern, Design through the Ages
7/22-8/2

From castles to contemporary, designers in this session will explore the evolution of architecture, transportation, and fashion throughout history. The goal is to adapt these elements for a future world, envisioning improved designs for the modern world. The session invites designers to reflect on the origins of buildings, vehicles, and clothing while envisioning their potential transformations in the future.

Design at Advent runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care offered until 5:30 p.m. The program is based out of Advent's 99 West Cedar Street building on Beacon Hill, located right off the Charles/MGH stop on the Red Line.
