Welcome to the Piazza!

The Advent Piazza is the community-building volunteer group within the Advent School.

The Piazza is where our community partners, participates, gathers, and grows. In Reggio Emilia, Italy, the Piazza is a public space central to each school—a democratic space for dialogue, encounters, and relationship building. It includes all parents, caregivers, and champions of Advent.

Advent's Piazza keeps the School mission at its center. Its physical space, image, and essence are synonymous with events, speakers, and ongoing dialogue in our community, both in-person and virtually.

The Piazza comprises committees with a specific purview and is each led by a parent/caregiver chair/s that liaises directly with Molly Wood, Events and Community Engagement Coordinator. You can join as many or as few committees as you wish!

About the Tile Project

The Piazza emerged amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a dedicated space for adults to actively participate in the ongoing daily social justice initiatives within our classrooms.

In March 2021, a year into the pandemic, the tile project began as a way for families to establish their presence within the school, even in their physical absence. Each family was given a blank tile, an array of paints, and an invitation to unleash their creativity. These tiles became canvases for families to depict symbols representing their unique identities. In the images on this page, you'll see the vibrant tiles crafted by Advent families.

Subsequently, these painted tiles were carefully collected and transported offsite for firing. A custom frame was constructed, and the tiles were installed at the entrance of 15 Brimmer Street.

The tiles are a vivid testament to the diversity that defines the Advent community.
