Support Advent’s Mission

The Advent School strives to create a culture of engagement where each member contributes—by volunteering or donating funds, for example–at their capacity. As with most independent schools, tuition revenue alone does not cover the whole cost of educating each student. The Advent School is a gift-supported institution and relies on charitable giving and volunteerism to sustain the financial health and vitality of our School.

The Advent Annual Fund

The Advent Annual Fund is Advent’s top fundraising priority. Gifts to the annual fund provide the critical, current-use, and unrestricted dollars the School needs to sustain its programs and facility. The Annual Fund also supports faculty salaries and professional development. Giving at every level is important to the sustainability of the School.

Each year the School strives for 100 percent participation from the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and current parent communities. Parent participation in the Annual Fund makes an enormous impact on each student’s experience and symbolizes the collective investment in the School’s excellence. Support for the Annual Fund is renewed each year as contributions are put to work immediately during the current academic year. The Annual Fund supports four key areas:

  1. Students: A strong Annual Fund allows the School to provide an exceptional education experience by supporting programs and providing financial assistance to students with demonstrated need.
  2. Faculty: With a robust Annual Fund, the School is able to recruit and retain high-quality teachers by offering competitive salaries and benefit packages, along with enriching professional development opportunities.
  3. Facilities: The Annual Fund helps maintain our historical home and provides the resources needed to make improvements.
  4. Area of greatest need: A strong Annual Fund allows the School to allocate funds where they are most needed at any time.

Contributions to the Annual Fund also cover approximately 8% of the School’s yearly operating budget.

Rev. Robert C. Day Financial Aid Fund

Gifts to the Rev. Robert C. Day Financial Aid Fund are critical to the success of our mission. Donating to this fund allows the School to offer financial assistance to those families who need it most.

“On my way home from working at Miles College in Birmingham teaching African American boys with Freedom Schools, Barbara and I both realized: elementary school is where we need to start, this foundation was the most important. The Advent School was the place where we could do something special, meaningful, and what the nation was struggling so hard to do.” – Reverend Robert C. Day
