The Advent School Community Playground

23 May The Advent School Community Playground

The Advent School Community Playground is a true community effort. This project has been in development for over a year and many constituents have worked tirelessly to get us to where we are today.

The “community” in “Community Playground” refers to the fact that each contribution is meaningful – from the faculty who visited playgrounds around the world to the student who donated $5 to the Playground Fund – and will help bring the vision to life.

On this page you will find information about the history of the project and how you can contribute to its success. If you have questions about this project, or would like more information, please contact Abigail Hayhurst, Director of Advancement, at ahayhurst@adventschool.org or (617) 742-0520 x 54.

HISTORY

Advent moved into 15 and 17 Brimmer Street in 1964. Since then, the land behind the School has gone through many changes. In the 1960s it was an open courtyard. A raised basketball platform was added in the 1980s, and a wooden play structure was erected in the 1990s.

In 2015 the Board of Trustees identified the playground as a major initiative in Learn, Act, Change, Advent’s strategic plan. In 2016, the School hired landscape architect Holly Ben-Joseph to design a space that a space that maximizes our footprint and provides play opportunities for students in all grades.

The site has already gone through several rounds of drainage and soil testing, and construction on the new playground will begin in June 2017. Follow Advent on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for construction updates throughout the summer.
